Huawei Algeria rewarded, on Wednesday in Algiers, during the ICT Day, the winning student teams of the first "Tech4Connect 2026" hackathon, focused on the crucial challenges of AgriTech and Smart Cities via AI, 5G, and Huawei Cloud technologies.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, as well as representatives of public and private companies active notably in the sector.
This 48-hour competition brought together more than 200 students, divided into teams of three (composed of an AI specialist, a domain expert, and a lead designer), with the mission of developing innovative prototypes via Huawei Cloud, focused on artificial intelligence, 5G, and digital energy, with the aim of building smart and sustainable cities.
Two winning teams were chosen in each category, rewarding the innovation and creativity of Algerian university youth.
The evening, organized in a Ramadan atmosphere, was also marked by a highlight dedicated to recognizing academic excellence.
Huawei Algeria made a point of honoring the students who participated and won the top prizes in the "Seeds for the Future" program organized in 2025. These laureates, from more than 44 universities in the ICT field, had completed a 15-day internship in Algiers before traveling to China for a one-week immersion at the group's headquarters.
Speaking at this ceremony, the Minister highlighted the central role of Algerian youth and students in the digitalization project, a necessity driven by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
He emphasized the collaboration with the telecommunications company Huawei to integrate programs developed by Algerian startups into the group's technological systems.
"We possess all the necessary skills, and our engineers are capable of developing such software within the most complex technological systems designed by Huawei," he affirmed, referring to the projects awarded during the student competitions.
The Minister also mentioned the importance of micro-enterprises financed by state mechanisms, which can contribute to "accelerating the pace of digitalization, increasing the integration rate, and better mastering these sensitive technologies."
For his part, the CEO of Huawei, Tony Sze, praised the "depth of historical relations" between Algeria and China, reaffirming "the group's commitment to accompanying the country's digital transformation."
He particularly insisted on the strategic dimension of training, emphasizing Huawei's close collaboration with various sectors.
