The Sonatrach Group has dispatched a technical team, within a delegation composed of representatives from the group and the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, on a working mission to Niamey (Niger), to collect technical data relating to the route of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project on Nigerien soil, in coordination with the Nigerien party, the group indicated yesterday, Tuesday, in a statement.
This mission is part of the implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the launch of this strategic project's construction in its Nigerien section, the same source specifies.
The team is tasked with examining the legal and regulatory framework in Niger, particularly regarding pipeline laying, regulatory studies (hazard study - EDD and environmental impact study - EIE), as well as the permits and construction authorizations related to this gas pipeline.
The visit's program includes technical meetings and discussions with officials from the Nigerien Petroleum Company (SONIDEP) and those from the Nigerien Ministry of Oil, as well as other parties involved in this project, according to the statement.
The goal is to jointly examine the initial operational steps for conducting the route studies, while taking into account the preliminary results of the feasibility study carried out by the consultant PENSPEN.
This stage constitutes a prelude to the detailed route studies phase as well as that of the gas pipeline's construction, the same source emphasizes, adding that the operational phase of the project connecting Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria will be launched following the month of Ramadan 2026, with the mobilization of Sonatrach for the implementation of its various stages, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic.
This approach "reflects Algeria's commitment to finalizing this project, which is part of consolidating strategic partnerships with African countries and promoting South-South cooperation. It also reflects the State's desire to strengthen the presence of the Sonatrach group on the continental energy scene," the statement concludes.
