ALGIERS- Expatriate goalkeeper Fayçal Melvin Mastil is set on winning a personal challenge during his first appearance with the Algerian national football team, aiming to secure a starting position.

This ambition follows the first-ever call-up received by the Stade Nyonnais (Swiss) goalkeeper to defend the colors of his ancestral land.

Mastil (26) will be required to demonstrate his international value and compete fiercely for the position of the number one goalkeeper for "Les Verts."

Recently, Mastil recorded an exceptional rating in the Swiss Challenge League (Second Division), catching the attention of specialized media, including the French newspaper L'Équipe.

During the match between Stade Nyonnais and FC Wil (0–0), Mastil received a rating of 9.5 from the specialized football website "Sofascore." He successfully made six crucial saves, four of which were from inside the penalty area.

Standing at 1.96m, Mastil displayed brilliance in aerial duels, a performance noted by critics. Despite playing in the Swiss second tier, often described as modest, critics from L'Équipe praised Mastil's performance.

Mastil, who recently celebrated his 26th birthday, has a Martinican father and an Algerian mother. He recently expressed his passion for defending Algeria's colors, emphasizing that joining the national team constitutes a source of "great pride" for him.

It is worth noting that Mastil will undergo a preparatory training camp with captain Riyad Mahrez and his teammates between March 23 and 31.

The camp includes a first friendly match against Guatemala on the night of March 27 (20:30) at the "Luigi Ferraris" Stadium in Genoa.

96 hours later, the Greens will play a second friendly against Uruguay at the "Allianz Stadium" in Turin, scheduled for the same time (20:30) on the evening of March 31.
