The Algerian Agency for Cultural Outreach (AARC) announced on Tuesday the launch of the "Mohammed Dib National Reading Championship 2026" for Algerian youth. This year's edition is dedicated to the pioneer of resistance literature in Algeria, novelist Mohammed Dib, according to a statement by the agency.

Coinciding with the celebration of Victory Day and under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the championship aims to "entrench the habit of reading among Algerian youth" and "honor one of the pioneers of resistance literature in Algeria, Mohammed Dib, by encouraging the reading of his works and drawing inspiration from his liberating ideas."

According to the competition rules, this literary championship is open to all Algerians aged between 18 and 35. Participants are required to read and summarize a collection of Mohammed Dib's works, which will be announced successively. Candidates may choose to participate in either Arabic or French.

The initial selection process involves reading and summarizing the first book, titled "La Grande Maison" (The Big House). Subsequent book titles will be sent to qualified participants in due course.

The Agency has invited interested candidates to submit their summaries of "La Grande Maison" before April 13 to the following email address: dib.lecture@gmail.com. Submissions must include personal information in a separate document, the signed and legalized competition rules, and a copy of the national identity card.

The summaries will be evaluated by a jury composed of experienced professors and specialists, whose decisions are final. Finalists will be hosted for a "reading residency" at Dar Abdellatif in Algiers to prepare for the written and oral examinations before the jury.

The organizers will hold an intellectual study day at the conclusion of the championship. The top three winners will be awarded prizes as follows: 200,000 DZD for the first place, 150,000 DZD for the second, and 100,000 DZD for the third.
