Algeria-Mauritania: Negotiations to Conclude Preferential Trade Agreement Covering 20 Priority Products

Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, along with the Mauritanian Minister of Trade and Tourism, Zeinebou Mint Ahmednah, presided Tuesday in Algiers over the opening of the 10th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Business Council, where the launch of negotiations to conclude a preferential trade agreement covering 20 priority products was announced, according to a ministry statement.

The session opened at the ministry's headquarters in the presence of the President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Kamel Moula, the President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers (UNPM), Mohamed Zeine El Abidine Ould Cheikh Ahmed, as well as the co-chairs of the Algerian-Mauritanian Business Council, Youcef El Ghazi (Algerian side) and Mohamed Lafdal Bettah  (Mauritanian side), alongside several economic operators and businessmen from both countries.

During the session, the two ministers announced the "launch of negotiations to conclude a preferential trade agreement covering 20 priority products from both sides, to be exchanged under customs preferences, thereby encouraging exports and facilitating product access to both markets," the statement added.

Furthermore, several recommendations and proposals aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries were presented. These include intensifying partnerships between economic operators to develop trade exchanges.

The session concluded with the signing of the minutes of the 10th meeting of the Algerian-Mauritanian Business Council.
