For the second day of his historic visit to Algeria, Pope Leo XIV flew Tuesday morning from Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport to the city of Annaba, formerly known as "Hippo Regius," landing at Rabah Bitat Airport.

"Following in the footsteps of Saint Augustine," the Sovereign Pontiff will visit the archaeological site of Hippo before heading to a home for the elderly run by the "Little Sisters of the Poor," a visit highlighting a social and humanitarian dimension.

The highlight of the day, open to the local Christian community, will undoubtedly be the Mass scheduled at the Saint Augustine Basilica in the city of Annaba.

This day will be centered on the legacy of Saint Augustine and his message of peace and dialogue between religions and cultures.

Upon his arrival at Rabah Bitat Airport, the Sovereign Pontiff was officially received by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, as well as by civil and military authorities.

The Pope's two-day visit to Algeria is a historic first, taking place at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
