The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of Mines and Mining Industries, Mourad Hanifi, received yesterday, Tuesday, the Chadian Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Geology, Fatima Haram Acyl. They examined ways and means to strengthen bilateral cooperation relations, according to a communiqué from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.
This meeting falls within the framework of consolidating cooperation ties between Algeria and Chad and continues the momentum characterizing relations between the two countries, particularly in the context of the 4th session of the Algerian-Chadian Joint Commission held in Algiers.
During the meeting, which took place in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines and Mining Industries, Karima Bakir Tafer, both parties discussed opportunities to "expand the partnership in the hydrocarbon field according to a sustainable strategic vision." They emphasized the importance of prior agreements and the need to continue efforts to develop cooperation across various segments of the value chain (exploration, production, transport, refining, and petrochemicals), in addition to the marketing of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Discussions also focused on partnership prospects between the Sonatrach group and Chadian companies, as well as support for energy infrastructure development projects in Chad.
Furthermore, both parties emphasized the importance of training and capacity building, notably through the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP), to bolster the transfer of Algerian expertise and support Chadian skills in the management and organization of the hydrocarbon sector, the same source added.
Regarding the mining and mining industries sector, the two sides addressed ways and means to strengthen cooperation in the exploitation and processing of mineral resources, geological research and studies, and the preparation of geological and mining maps. They also discussed the exchange of expertise in administrative organization and the legal framework governing mining activities.
This meeting follows the consultation and coordination process between the two countries and concludes the meetings held during Algeria's participation in the "SEMICA Chad 2026" exhibition, where the shared will to strengthen bilateral partnership in the hydrocarbon and mining sectors was reaffirmed, the source added.
These continuous meetings reflect the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries—based on trust, solidarity, and the convergence of interests—and confirm the common desire to elevate bilateral cooperation to higher levels to serve the development of both nations and strengthen South-South cooperation, the ministry concluded in its communiqué.
