NEW YORK (United Nations) - The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, was unanimously elected by member states on Thursday as President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2027 session.
This election, which took place during the Council's organizational session to choose its president and vice-presidents, solidifies the trust placed in Algeria by member states, particularly the African Group, which nominated Ambassador Amar Bendjama for the post.
This achievement is also a recognition of Algeria's tireless diplomatic efforts in support of multilateralism and international cooperation, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Ambassador Bendjama succeeds Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa of Nepal as President of the Council.
