The death toll from the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reached 1,034, with 35 new deaths recorded over the past 24 hours, while the number of confirmed cases has risen to 2,536, according to the daily report from the country's Ministry of Communication and Media on Thursday.
The case fatality rate stands at 40.7%, the same source specified, adding that 506 patients have recovered, while 738 people suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus are currently in isolation or hospitalized.
The contact-tracing rate for those who came into contact with sick individuals is 77.2%.
The Ebola epidemic was declared on May 15 in eastern DRC and Uganda. The epicenter is located in the wilaya of Ituri, in the northeastern part of the country.
