The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed on Wednesday evening that the progress made today between Algeria and Chad represents a significant step toward building an integrated strategic partnership.
In a joint statement with his Chadian counterpart, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, following their talks at the Presidency of the Republic, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated: "What we achieved today constitutes a major step toward building an integrated strategic partnership," highlighting Algeria's commitment to standing by brotherly Chad and its dedication to building a "successful model for Afro-African cooperation."
The President emphasized that the official visit of the Chadian President to Algeria reflects "our shared political will to continue the path we mapped out together during His Excellency's visit to Algiers last September." He added that this visit aims to "give a new impetus to cooperation in various fields, particularly the economic sector, including energy, mining, infrastructure, transport, industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and trade."
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune further noted: "During our talks, we both reaffirmed the importance of activating cooperation mechanisms, including the Joint Commission, for which we ensured the holding of its fourth session." He committed, starting from this visit, to "updating the legal framework governing our relations and signing nearly 30 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)."
The President continued: "I and my brother, His Excellency the President of the brotherly Republic of Chad, have called for the necessary dynamism within the Algerian-Chadian Business Council to enhance the results of its first session, as it serves as a platform for communication between economic operators and a bridge to boost investment and trade."
In the same context, the President mentioned discussing cooperation in human resource training, expressing "Algeria’s readiness to train the largest possible number of Chadian cadres and to share Algeria’s expertise in various specialties to serve the development process."
Regarding security cooperation, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated: "We reaffirmed that the challenges facing our shared space in the Sahel-Saharan region, primarily the challenge of counter-terrorism, demand coordination and cooperation to ensure the security and stability of our two countries and the region."
The President also addressed the "situation in brotherly Sudan and its humanitarian repercussions on the Republic of Chad," highly praising the "immense efforts made by Chad to receive refugees." He called on the international community to "assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the events in Sudan."
Finally, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune concluded by noting "extensive discussions with the President of Chad on regional and African issues," stating that they "agreed to continue consultation and coordination in defense of our continent’s interests and in service of peace, stability, and development in Africa."
