A national competition for the best historical documentary film on the personality of Martyr Saâl Bouzid (1919-1945) and the attack on the Setif post office by Mujahideen in 1958 has been launched in the wilaya of Setif. This is part of an initiative aimed at preserving the national memory and immortalizing the exploits of the glorious Revolution, it was learned from the organizers on Tuesday.
The director of the Office of Culture and Tourism, Khaled Mehennaoui, told APS that the competition is "open to accredited audiovisual production companies, as well as directors and amateurs, to showcase their skills and talents in the field of directing and documentation, while contributing to writing the history of Algeria through image and sound."
Eligible works for the competition must not exceed 26 minutes, must meet image quality standards, and must rely on documented archives, with the possibility of recreating scenes depicting, notably, the death of Saâl Bouzid on May 8, 1945, as well as the attack on the Setif post office in 1958, he detailed.
This competition, for which participants must submit their works "by August 10 at the latest," aims, according to Mr. Mehennaoui, to "encourage audiovisual production related to the history of our country and inspire young talents to take an interest in historical documentation. It also seeks to raise awareness among younger generations by highlighting the symbols of the glorious Revolution and recalling significant milestones in the history of the Algerian struggle for freedom."
Encouragement prizes have been planned for this competition. The winners will be announced on August 20, on the occasion of the commemoration of the double anniversary of the North Constantinois Offensive and the Congress of Soummam.
