The "Memory and History" caravan, dedicated to discovering the emblematic sites of the National Liberation War in the region, was launched on Monday from the Djebbar-Mohamed sports hub in Mascara, as part of the celebrations for the 64th anniversary of independence and the recovery of national sovereignty.

Organized by the Youth and Sports Directorate (DJS), in coordination with the wilaya League of Youth Cultural and Scientific Activities, this caravan brings together more than 100 children and youth aged 10 to 17 from youth establishments and associations across the wilaya, the directorate indicated.

Over three days, the participants will visit several historical sites linked to the National Liberation War in the wilaya, notably the Boudjlida cave in the municipality of El Gaâda, which served as a refuge for the martyr Ahmed Zabana, as well as the site of the Battle of Djebel El Menaouer in the municipality of El Menaouer, fought on September 5, 1957. The program also includes a visit to the command headquarters and the tribunal of Emir Abdelkader, located in the city of Mascara.

The youth will also discover the wilaya's Moudjahid Museum, where the main battles led by units of the National Liberation Army in the region will be presented, along with the sacrifices made by the martyrs. Visits to the families of martyrs are also included in the program.

Supervised by officials from the DJS as well as the wilaya League of Youth Cultural and Scientific Activities, this initiative aims to raise awareness among the younger generations about the historical sites and monuments of the National Liberation War, while strengthening collective memory and the bond between generations.
