President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed today, Thursday, from Ankara, that Algeria and Türkiye are determined to strengthen their strategic partnership and expand the fields of economic and investment cooperation, praising the dynamic momentum of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
This came during the joint press statement delivered by the President of the Republic of Algeria on the occasion of the first session of the High-Level Algerian-Turkish Strategic Cooperation Council, alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the beginning of his statement, the President of the Republic explained that the talks held with President Erdoğan allowed for a review of "significant milestones concerning the reality of our countries' relations," emphasizing that Algerian-Turkish relations possess "historical depth" and are "based on a shared cultural heritage." He also noted that these relations are "experiencing an increasing dynamic that invites us to feel satisfied."
The President of the Republic added that Algeria and Türkiye seek, through this visit, to "strengthen" the existing level of cooperation by "diversifying economic cooperation and expanding partnership fields" to include renewable energy, agriculture, industry, and mining sectors, as well as "supporting bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields."
President Tebboune also expressed his satisfaction with the "results of these rich and fruitful talks," which "culminated in the signing of a significant number of agreements." He praised the reactivation of the Business Forum and its role in "trade exchange and the movement of investments between economic operators in both countries."
The President of the Republic also commended the "commencement of negotiations on the Preferential Trade Agreement" for a specific list of goods, considering that this step would "contribute to raising the volume of trade exchanges and investments to the 10-billion-dollar threshold by the year 2030."
Regarding regional and international issues, President Tebboune revealed that the talks addressed "developments in the Gulf region and the Middle East, and ways to resolve crises and establish security." He emphasized that both sides expressed their "condemnation of the Israeli occupation's violations of international law and international humanitarian law."
He also pointed to the condemnation of the "blatant occupation's aggressions against Lebanon" and the "brutality of its practices in the Gaza Strip," emphasizing the "international community's responsibility to put an end to these violations" and work toward "building peace in the region," in a way that guarantees the "legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to establish their independent state."
The President of the Republic added that both sides also expressed their "condemnation of the occupation's decision to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia," considering it "a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and a threat to security and stability in the Horn of Africa region."
According to the President of the Republic, the talks also addressed the situations in Libya and the Sahel region, as well as the Western Sahara cause. The discussions highlighted "the commitment of both Algeria and Türkiye to peaceful solutions in conflict resolution and adherence to international legitimacy."
