The President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, praised in Ankara on Thursday evening the support provided by Algeria to the Palestinian cause, particularly during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council over the past two years.
In a joint press statement with the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the occasion of the first session of the Algerian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, President Erdoğan said: "I was pleased to see a consensus of views between us and Algeria regarding the fundamental issues concerning the African continent and our region. We are among the strongest defenders of the two-state solution in Palestine," recalling that the declaration of the establishment of the State of Palestine took place in Algeria in 1988.
He added in the same context: "We highly valued the support provided by Algeria to the Palestinian cause during its membership in the UN Security Council over the past two years," noting that the Israeli aggression in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon "has proven once again that the real security problem in our region lies in the expansionist policies of Israel, which recognizes no laws or rules."
In this regard, the Turkish President pointed out that Algeria and his country share a "common position on the necessity of ending the cycle of violence that dangerously threatens the peace and security of our region."
President Erdoğan concluded by emphasizing that "the mutual respect and affection derived from our shared history constitute the driving force of Turkish-Algerian relations." He continued, saying: "We experience this spirit of solidarity today not only in our bilateral relations but also in the common positions we adopt regarding many international issues."
