The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, began a working visit to Canada yesterday, Monday. There, he held an interactive meeting with members of the diaspora residing in the consular district of Montreal. The meeting featured the participation, via videoconference from Algiers, of the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, Mr. Noureddine Ouadah, in the presence of the Algerian Ambassador to Ottawa and the Consul General, a ministry press release indicated.
"This meeting was a favorable opportunity to exchange views on the prospects for strengthening the contribution of national talents established in Canada to the national development process," the same source specified.
In an address delivered on this occasion, Mr. Chaib stated that "the national community abroad represents a strategic pillar in the process of building the new and victorious Algeria, given the skills and expertise it possesses." He highlighted "the will of the country's supreme authorities to involve it more closely in the various national dynamics."
He also highlighted "the important political achievements made for the benefit of the members of the national community, notably through the increase in the number of seats reserved for them in Parliament, with the allocation of two (2) seats for the American continent."
Furthermore, Mr. Chaib reviewed "the main efforts and initiatives deployed by the State for the benefit of Algerian citizens abroad, notably the continued modernization and digitalization of consular services, thereby ensuring the simplification of procedures and the improvement of public service quality. He also mentioned the mobilization and strengthening of the participation of Algerian talents established abroad in the national development process, in addition to supporting cultural and educational initiatives aimed at preserving the national identity and anchoring ties of belonging among future generations."
For his part, Mr. Ouadah informed the audience of the various initiatives adopted by the State to "strengthen the startup ecosystem and the innovation environment in Algeria." He mentioned "the facilities and other incentives introduced to encourage investment in this field, particularly for the benefit of citizens residing abroad."
At the end of this meeting, Mr. Chaib praised "the patriotism demonstrated by the Algerian community in Canada" and its "constant attachment to the motherland," reiterating "the State's commitment to supporting its children abroad and addressing their concerns wherever they may be," the press release concluded.
