The Algerian national weightlifting team concluded its participation in the 2026 African Senior Championships, held in Ismailia, Egypt, from May 10 to 16, with a total of six medals (two silver and four bronze). The achievements were secured by weightlifters Aymen Touiri and Fares Touiri.
Competing in the 110kg category, Aymen Touiri was crowned Vice-African Champion with an overall total of 375kg. He won the bronze medal in the snatch event after lifting 165kg, before adding a silver in the clean and jerk with a successful lift of 210kg.
For his part, Fares Touiri, competing in the 94kg category, bolstered the Algerian tally with three bronze medals, finishing third in the snatch, the clean and jerk, and the overall total.
Algeria participated in this continental event with four athletes: Fares Touiri, Aymen Touiri, Inas Idriss (58kg), and Douaa Bouabdallah (77kg).
The national team aimed to collect the maximum number of medals during this African competition, a goal that was relatively achieved given the results recorded by the Algerian representatives in Egypt.
