2026 African Championships: Algeria Finishes With 4 Medals, Including 2 Gold

The national team wrapped up its participation in the 24th edition by winning four medals (2 gold and 2 bronze), at the conclusion of the final day of the 2026 African Athletics Championships, held on Sunday in Accra, Ghana.

One of the two gold medals was claimed by Zahra Tatar, who distinguished herself in the hammer throw event with a remarkable performance of 69.82m, under the guidance of her coach, Hakim Toumi.

For his part, young prodigy Younes Ayachi shone in the high jump competition, winning Algeria's second gold medal with a cleared height of 2.22m, under the supervision of coach Mohamed-Amine Hafed.

Meanwhile, Souad Azzi, competing in the 20km race walk, won the bronze medal with a time of 1h 34m 26s, under the leadership of coach Karim Anzi.

The same goes for Dhiae Eddine Boudoumi, who secured the bronze medal in the pole vault with a measured jump of 4.20m, under the guidance of coach Samir Ben Ahmed. He also competed in the decathlon, where he placed fourth with a total of 7,259 points.

Furthermore, athletes Ismaïl Benhammouda (20km race walk), Tarek Hocine (long jump), and Mohamed-Ali Gouaned (800m) finished their respective competitions just off the podium.

The Algerian delegation was represented in this continental competition by ten athletes, entered in several specialties, notably field events, middle-distance running, and race walking.

Considered the premier continental athletics competition, the Senior African Championships bring together the best African athletes in various disciplines, including sprints, long-distance running, relays, and field events.
