The Algerian national track cycling team (Men's/Women's) secured third place at the 2026 African Track Cycling Championships, which concluded on Sunday evening at the Abuja Velodrome (Nigeria), after garnering sixteen medals: 3 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze.
The competition was won by South Africa, which collected 24 medals (11 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze), ahead of Egypt with a total of 11 medals: 6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.
Nigeria, the host country of this competition held from May 10 to 17 in Abuja, finished just off the podium with nine medals: 2 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.
The Algerian gold medals that greatly contributed to securing this third place were won by Hamza Yacine in the Scratch race (Elite/Men), Mohamed Nadjib Assel in the Omnium (Elite/Men), and the national team (Elite/Women) in the Team Sprint event.
The women's national team was composed of the trio Yassamine El Meddah, Malak Mechab, and Sihem Bousebaâ, who dominated their counterparts from Benin and Nigeria, who won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
