The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, held talks on Monday with the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas of the Republic of Angola, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, regarding prospects for bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector, according to a ministry statement.
The meeting took place via videoconference, in the presence of the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi; the President of the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT), Samir Bakhti; and senior officials from the ministry.
From the Angolan side, participants included the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Oil, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG), Paulino Fernando de Carvalho Jerónimo; the CEO of the Angolan National Hydrocarbon Company (Sonangol), Sebastião Pai Querido Gaspar Martins; and the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Alexandre Barroso.
The talks were dedicated to reviewing the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Angola in the hydrocarbons sector. Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership and expanding cooperation across the entire oil and gas industry value chain. This includes exploration, production, the optimal exploitation of oil and gas resources, refining, petrochemicals, and training through the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) and the Sonatrach Management Academy.
The two sides also exchanged views on ways to support cooperation between the Sonatrach group and various Angolan institutions and companies active in the hydrocarbons sector. They focused on the exchange of expertise, the promotion of training programs and knowledge transfer, and the encouragement of industrial and technical partnerships to increase the added value of natural resources in both countries.
In this context, it was agreed to organize a working visit for executives and experts from the Sonatrach group to Angola in the near future. The goal is to deepen technical consultations, explore available cooperation opportunities, and identify concrete partnership projects of mutual benefit, the statement explained.
On this occasion, Mr. Arkab emphasized the importance of expanding Algerian-Angolan cooperation to include promising fields, reflecting the depth of the brotherly relations between the two countries and the shared will to elevate them to an effective strategic partnership.
He also noted that the official visit of the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, to Algeria last May—which culminated in the signing of 11 cooperation agreements—provides a strong impetus for strengthening bilateral cooperation and keeping pace with the economic and developmental dynamics witnessed across the African continent.
The Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria's commitment, following the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to continue strengthening its strategic partnerships with sister African countries. He stressed Algeria's active contribution to building an integrated continental economy based on sustainable development and providing energy for all, in line with the goals of Africa’s Agenda 2063, and reinforcing the principles of South-South cooperation and African regional integration.
For his part, the Angolan Minister praised the "brotherly and distinguished relations" between his country and Algeria. He lauded Algeria's pioneering experience in the fields of exploration, production, and the development of the oil and gas industry, as well as the efforts made in energy transition and human resource development.
According to the same source, he also expressed his country's desire to strengthen cooperation with Algeria and benefit from its extensive expertise to serve the common interests of both nations and contribute to their development and prosperity.
