Prime Minister Mr. Sifi Ghrieb received the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Mr. Philip Mshelbila, and his accompanying delegation, who are on a working visit to Algeria from June 20 to 23, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's services.
The discussions focused on the ways and means to implement the conclusions of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Gas Exporting Countries, hosted by Algeria in March 2024, particularly regarding the activation process of the Gas Research Institute (GRI), headquartered in Algiers.
During this meeting, held on Monday in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, both parties emphasized the need to enable the GRI to fulfill its role as an international center for research, capacity building, and expertise exchange. They also highlighted its importance as an actor contributing to the efforts of member states in addressing the new challenges confronting the gas industry, the statement specified.
The discussions also covered the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, whose realization has now entered its effective phase, as well as the GECF's support for this project as a significant initiative capable of contributing to the strengthening of global energy security.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the realization of this project aligns with the strategic and integrated vision of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This vision aims to build an African energy partnership based on integration, solidarity, and the achievement of common interests, in line with the objectives of Africa's Agenda 2063, thereby strengthening the principles of South-South cooperation and promoting African continental integration, the statement concluded.
