The Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Seddik Ait Messaoudene, called for drawing up a clear roadmap to develop national production in the field of vaccines, praising the pivotal role of the Pasteur Institute of Algeria in supporting the national health system and strengthening the country's health security, according to a ministry statement on Wednesday.
The same source explained that during a field visit yesterday evening, Tuesday, to the Pasteur Institute of Algeria, the minister reviewed "the institute's various activities and its scientific and research programs," alongside "the strategic projects it oversees in the fields of public health, epidemiological vigilance, laboratory diagnosis, and scientific research."
In a speech on the occasion, Mr. Ait Messaoudene congratulated the managers and staff of the institute, led by the Director General, on the occasion of the Pasteur Institute of Algeria being designated as a Regional Center of Excellence for Biosafety and Biosecurity for the North African region. He noted that this "international recognition is a culmination of the distinguished path taken by the institute in developing its scientific and technical capabilities, and reflects the trust that Algerian competencies enjoy among specialized international bodies."
The minister also praised "the journey of this reference institution of strategic importance" and lauded its wealth of scientific and human competencies, valuing "its pivotal role in supporting the national health system and enhancing the country's health security."
He noted that "the status achieved by the institute at both regional and international levels serves as an incentive to continue upgrading performance, establishing a culture of quality, and encouraging innovation and scientific research."
The Minister of Health emphasized the importance of transitioning to a "new phase" centered on "national vaccine production by introducing modern and repetitive technologies." He called for drawing up a "clear roadmap to develop this strategic field, in line with national orientations aimed at strengthening health sovereignty and reducing foreign dependency."
In the same context, he explained that "meeting this challenge requires continuous investment in qualitative training, promoting scientific research, and encouraging innovation, while valuing the national competencies within the institute. This will reinforce Algeria's position as a reference hub for health and biomedical research in North Africa, while continuing to adopt international standards and embedding a culture of quality and excellence within various health and scientific institutions to ensure performance improvement and elevate the level of services provided."
At the conclusion of the visit, the minister reaffirmed "the sector's support for various development projects" and the ministry's commitment to "accompanying this ancient institution on its path toward greater scientific excellence regionally and internationally, serving the goals of developing the national health system and strengthening the country's health security."
