The President of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, reaffirmed his country's principled and firm position supporting the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination to achieve their freedom and full independence.
President Ramaphosa emphasized during his reception this Friday of the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, in the capital Pretoria, that "South Africa's position, stemming from its liberation history, will remain firm in defending the right of peoples to self-determination in accordance with the constitutive principles of the African Union and resolutions of international legitimacy."
For his part, the Sahrawi Foreign Minister reviewed, as reported by the Sahrawi News Agency, the latest developments of the Sahrawi cause at various levels, highlighting the struggle of the Sahrawi people to complete the decolonization process of the last colony in Africa.
He also addressed the obstacles and maneuvers that the Moroccan occupation continues to fabricate to obstruct any path leading to enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
During this meeting, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat delivered a written message to the South African President from the President of the Sahrawi Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, which covered ways to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations between the Sahrawi Republic and the Republic of South Africa, in addition to continuous consultation and coordination on issues of common interest.
