On behalf of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of Digitization, Meriem Benmouloud, signed today, Thursday, in the Chinese city of Shanghai, on behalf of Algeria as a founding member, the agreement establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Organization, according to a statement by the High Commission.
The same source explained that this international organization "is the first of its kind specializing in artificial intelligence and its governance at the global level."
The statement added that Ms. Benmouloud "will participate in the activities of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026, organized in the same city from July 17 to 20, the opening ceremony of which will take place in the presence of the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, alongside the participation of government officials, representatives from various sectors, universities, research institutes around the world, and heads of international organizations."
This meeting, which will see "discussions on the latest developments in artificial intelligence and the prospects for its development and governance," aims to "build a platform capable of enhancing mutual trust and deepening cooperation, contributing to the promotion of a healthy, safe, and orderly development of artificial intelligence," in addition to making this conference a "milestone" in the history of artificial intelligence's evolution.
This participation comes within the framework of "implementing the directives of the President of the Republic, aimed at strengthening Algeria's standing by accelerating the country's digital transformation, keeping pace with global technological developments, and working to enhance digital sovereignty," according to the same source.
