The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, received on Sunday a delegation from the Argentine company "INVAP," which specializes in advanced nuclear energy technologies for medical use, led by the company's Director General, Dario Guissi, the ministry said in a statement.
During this meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters in the presence of senior sector executives, Mr. Adjal highlighted the "good relations" uniting Algeria and Argentina in the fields of energy and renewable energies, notably through the "successful partnership" established for 40 years between the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) and the Argentine company. This collaboration has enabled the launch of several infrastructure projects in the field of nuclear energy for medical use.
Among the projects launched in this field, the minister notably mentioned the construction, in Draria (Algiers), of a production unit for radioisotopes, which are used as tracers in medical imaging or as substances in radiotherapy to target and destroy cancer cells.
In this context, Mr. Adjal stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries, through COMENA and "INVAP," to leverage Argentine expertise in developing radioisotope production, with a view to their local manufacturing in Algeria in the future.
The minister also insisted on the need to accelerate the pace of construction work on the Draria unit and to respect completion deadlines, while ensuring periodic monitoring of the project.
For his part, the Director General of the Argentine company welcomed the success of cooperation between Algeria and Argentina in the field of the medical use of nuclear energy, praising the proposals made by the minister and the prospects for future cooperation, particularly regarding the production of radioisotopes, the statement concluded.
