TUNIS — Algeria has officially won the position of Director of the Arab Center for News and Program Exchange, a key body of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) headquartered in Algiers. The decision was made on Tuesday in Tunis during the 45th Ordinary Session of the ASBU General Assembly.
The position was awarded to Adel Guensous, the former assistant to the Director General of Algerian Television, who represents the nation’s public television, radio, and broadcasting establishments. His appointment was achieved through a consensus of the General Assembly members following the withdrawal of the Egyptian candidate in favor of Algeria.
This unanimous support follows intensive diplomatic outreach led by Mohamed Baghali, Director General of Algerian Television. Operating under the supervision of public authorities, Baghali engaged in extensive discussions with his counterparts across various Arab radio and television organizations to solidify support for the Algerian bid.
The victory serves as a testament to Algeria’s standing and influence among Arab nations and within international organizations. It also ensures that the directorship of the Exchange Center remains under Algerian leadership, as the post was previously held by an Algerian national.
In addition to this appointment, Algeria successfully retained its seat on the ASBU Executive Council. Furthermore, Algerian Television, represented by Director General Mohamed Baghali, maintained its position within the Executive Bureau charged with urgent affairs.
