The first edition of the International Cultural Festival of Southern Music kicked off on Tuesday evening in Tamanrasset, featuring a host of national and international artists.
The opening ceremony was held in a festive atmosphere attended by local authorities and a representative from the Ministry of Culture and Arts. The event launched with an artistic evening at the House of Culture in the capital of the Ahaggar region.
According to Festival Commissioner Abdelhamid Bouhala, the event's academic program includes presentations on the use of Algerian music in theater and cinema. It will also explore the role of Southern music in promoting national identity through tourism activities.
Mr. Bouhala added that training workshops are planned for participants, supervised by experts from specialized art institutes.
Running until next Sunday, the cultural event aims to serve as a space for exchange and a window into the diverse musical genres of the country's south, the commissioner highlighted.
Organizers noted that the timing of the festival was strategically chosen to coincide with the Saharan tourism season and the winter holidays, ensuring a strong turnout of the general public, families, and tourists.
