In the framework of celebrating Heritage Month, the Director of the National Public Museum of Antiquities, Azzedine Antri, emphasized that this occasion represents an important opportunity to highlight efforts in museum and heritage work and to bring the public closer to the components of national identity.

During his appearance on the "Guest of the Morning" program on Radio Channel 2 this Wednesday, Antri revealed a rich and diverse program organized by the museum for the occasion. The program includes two major exhibitions: the first dedicated to coinage during the Islamic period in the Middle Maghreb, while the second pays tribute to the artist Mohamed Temmam, the museum's first curator after independence. Temmam contributed to bridging Algerian and international art, in addition to being a mujahid who served as a judge within the National Liberation Front (FLN) in France.

Regarding scientific activities, the speaker mentioned a two-day scientific symposium organized in cooperation with the University of Algiers. The event focuses on the "Melouka" site in Bejaia, a significant archaeological site documenting Algerian resistance during the Roman period led by the Amazigh leader Firmus. The program also includes a series of weekly lectures every Monday focusing on intangible heritage, held in coordination with the National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions.

In terms of workshops, training activities continue for various groups, including a special workshop for people with disabilities, which will culminate in an exhibition showcasing the creative works of these children.

According to the guest of Channel 2, the program also features community outreach activities for educational institutions through the "Museum Bag" initiative. This project takes the museum beyond its walls to several areas in the capital and its outskirts, as well as other wilayas such as Tizi Ouzou, specifically the Tigzirt and Makouda regions.

Antri emphasized that the museum's role is not limited to preserving tangible heritage but also includes safeguarding intangible heritage and strengthening national identity by highlighting various cultural components and fostering a sense of belonging among citizens.

Regarding digitalization, the speaker explained that it covers various aspects of museum work, from inventory and preservation to facilitating visitor access via electronic payment services and developing digital content for websites through virtual tours and augmented reality (AR) technologies. He also noted the adoption of modern communication methods, such as hologram technology, alongside the digitalization of administrative management.

In a related context, Antri stressed that museums represent a heritage reservoir upon which the Ministry of Culture relies to prepare international classification files. He cited "Zellij" (ceramic tilework) as an example, noting that the museum holds the physical evidence used to build files submitted to UNESCO.

He also confirmed that the Ministry is working to protect national heritage in coordination with international cultural bodies through an integrated program based on museum assets. He mentioned that preparations are underway to submit new files to UNESCO concerning the "Blouza" and certain musical styles for inclusion on the World Heritage List.
