The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency session this Monday to discuss the political and legal implications of the announcement by the Zionist entity of its recognition of what it's called “Somaliland.” The session comes at the urgent request of the Federal Government of Somalia, which has described the Zionist move as a “deliberate attack” on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at UN headquarters in New York, amid broad international anticipation of the positions of Council members, who are expected to deliver sharp criticism of the Zionist decision. They argue that such unilateral recognition threatens peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region and constitutes a dangerous precedent under international law.

This development follows a wave of widespread Arab, Islamic and international condemnation of the Zionist announcement. The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States has declared that it will hold an emergency meeting of the Council of the League at the level of permanent representatives on Sunday, to discuss developments related to the declaration by the Zionist entity and to reject any unilateral measures or decisions that undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

On Friday, the Somali Federal Government affirmed its absolute commitment to the country’s sovereignty and national unity. It expressed its categorical rejection of the Israeli recognition of the so-called "Somaliland" as an independent state, considering the region an integral part of its sovereign territory.

Furthermore, the Somali government stressed its steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and rejected any attempts to drag Somalia into proxy wars or to transfer regional and international conflicts to its territory.

What is known as the “Republic of Somaliland” is located in the north‑western tip of Somalia, covering an area of 175,000 square kilometres. It unilaterally declared independence in 1991 but has not won recognition from the international community.
