A joint statement signed by the foreign ministers of Algeria, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Egypt, the Union of the Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, the Republic of Maldives, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Yemen, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation affirmed their categorical rejection of the announcement made on Saturday by the Zionist entity recognizing the “Somaliland” region located within the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The statement clarified that this stance is taken in light of the grave repercussions of this unprecedented measure on peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, as well as its dangerous impact on international peace and security. It further reflects the entity's clear and total disregard for international law.
The statement condemned in the strongest terms this Zionist recognition, which it described as a flagrant violation of the rules of international law and of the Charter of the United Nations, which affirms the need to preserve the sovereignty of states and the unity and integrity of their territories.
The same source also affirmed full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the rejection of any measures that would undermine Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty over all its lands, stressing that recognizing the independence of parts of states’ territories constitutes a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security and to the well‑established principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Furthermore, the source expressed categorical rejection of any linkage between this measure and any schemes to displace the Palestinian people from their land—plans that are rejected in their entirety.
It is worth noting that Morocco, the UAE, and Bahrain did not join this statement. These normalizing states have consistently abstained from aligning with collective Arab positions or statements condemning the transgressions of the Zionist entity, whether regarding the war on Gaza or aggression against neighboring Arab states. It appears as though these nations have pledged, under normalization agreements, to refrain from criticizing Zionist policies, regardless of their severity.
On this occasion, these states failed to condemn the Zionist entity for threatening the territorial integrity of a member state of the League of Arab States and for supporting attempts to fragment and divide it.
