The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced Tuesday evening that Belgium has joined the proceedings initiated by South Africa against the Zionist entity for genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Several countries have already joined this case before the highest United Nations court, which sits in The Hague, including Brazil, Ireland, Bolivia, Colombia, Spain, and Mexico.
In a landmark ruling in January 2024—four months after the start of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian enclave—the ICJ called on the Zionist occupation to prevent any act of genocide, warning of a "real and imminent risk" of "irreparable prejudice" to the Palestinians.
Without ruling on the merits, it issued several provisional measures demanding, in particular, that the Zionist entity allow access to humanitarian aid and prevent and punish incitement to genocide.
These orders are legally binding, but the court possesses no concrete means to enforce them.
