Algerian middle-distance runners Mohamed Ali Gouaned and Haïthem Chenitef set new records at the Meeting Indoor de Lyon (France) in the 800 meters and 1500 meters respectively, with times of 1:45.85 and 3:36.51 clocked on Saturday evening during the 2026 edition.
Gouaned won his race ahead of Moroccan Abdellati El Guesse (2nd/1:46.62) and Irishman Mark English (3rd/1:46.63), while Chenitef prevailed over American Craig Engels (2nd/3:36.80) and Uruguayan Valentin Soca (3rd/3:36.81).
The third Algerian international participating in this meet, Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki, also distinguished himself in the triple jump, taking home a silver medal with a jump measured at 16.54 meters.
These strong performances confirm a return to form for these three athletes and suggest a rise in momentum over the coming months, and potentially further success in 2026.
