The Algerian national handball team (senior men) is just one step away from securing a ticket to the semi-finals, following their victory over their Angolan counterpart with a score of 27-22 (half-time 14-10). This match was part of the second and final day of the main round of the 27th edition of the 2026 African Nations Championship, within Group I, held today, Tuesday, in Kigali.
The national team, which was required to win by a margin of at least three goals to reach the final four, succeeded in achieving its objective thanks to the excellent performance of right-back Ayoub Abdi during this match, earning him the title of Man of the Match.
In the other Group I match, the Egyptian team is set to face the Nigerian team starting at 15:30.
Group II of the main round consists of the teams from Tunisia, Guinea, Cape Verde, and Morocco.
The top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday, January 29, while the classification match (for third place) and the final will take place next Saturday, January 31.
