United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underscored the need to implement the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to "move to the second phase of the agreement," the Wafa news agency reported on Friday.
During a press conference held Thursday evening, Guterres stated that the ceasefire, which entered into force in Gaza last October following two years of Zionist genocide, "is currently described as a reduction in fire" by the Zionist army, "without, however, ending it completely."
He highlighted the necessity of "moving to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement," which implies the total withdrawal of Zionist occupation forces and paving the way for the implementation of the two-state solution.
The UN chief furthermore expressed his strong opposition to all measures taken by the occupation forces aimed at undermining the two-state solution, particularly in the occupied West Bank. He cited the construction of settlements, home demolitions, the forced displacement of Palestinian citizens, and the escalation of settler violence.
