During the Council of Ministers meeting he chaired on Tuesday, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, ordered the launch of the construction of two water desalination plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf within next March.

Regarding the water sector, the President of the Republic instructed the sector minister on the necessity of "launching the construction of two desalination plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf within the next month, for the benefit of the residents of the two wilayas." He stressed that these two projects "are strategic for the residents of our Great South," according to a statement by the Council of Ministers.

The President of the Republic also ordered the establishment of a new plant in Tindouf for the treatment and purification of wastewater, specifically for promising agricultural projects.

On the other hand, the President ordered the sector minister to redouble "measures of vigilance, monitoring, and caution during operations to discharge water exceeding the capacity of full dams."

Furthermore, he stressed giving "utmost importance to respecting drinking water distribution plans nationally throughout the year."

In this context, he considered the "incident of tap water interruption for the residents of the wilaya of Chlef, before its recent restoration, to be completely unacceptable and entails bearing full responsibilities," warning strongly against "any laxity leading to such an occurrence."
