The President of the Republic of Niger, Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, expressed, this Monday, his deep gratitude towards Algeria, which has shown solidarity with the Nigerien people and respect for his country’s sovereignty and internal political choices.
In a joint statement with the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, following their talks at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, the President of Niger praised “the highest Algerian authorities who, despite the vain attempts of certain powers with neo-colonialist undertones, and international and sub-regional organizations, remote-controlled and manipulated, have shown solidarity with the Nigerien people after the events of July 26, 2023”.
He considered that this position, taken in favor of “respecting the sovereignty of Niger and its internal political choices, honors Algeria, its government, and its people”.
“In any case, no Algerian, no African could understand Algeria lending its territory to attack an African country, especially when it concerns this same power which, for more than a century, inflicted unspeakable suffering on the valiant Algerian people,” he asserted.
On another level, President Tiani indicated that his presence in Algeria reflects the interest Niger places in “brotherhood and bilateral cooperation between our two peoples, our two governments, and our two countries,” while welcoming the “excellence of the historical relations” that unite the two peoples, as well as the common will to “further boost our fraternal cooperation and good neighborliness”
“This visit is part of the continuous strengthening of our strategic partnership, particularly in the sectors of security, oil, energy, infrastructure and transport, communication, trade, but also in education and training,” he emphasized.
For the President of Niger, “this is the place to renew the expectations of the Nigerien government to see both parties accelerate the effective launch and completion of our joint projects, notably the major project of the Kafra block, the Agadez dry port, the railway connecting our two states, and the Trans-Saharan”.
To this, he added other projects “no less important, which will strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples," namely the project to build a dialysis center in Tchirozérine, the project for the renovation and extension of the Algeria-Niger Friendship Vocational High School in Zinder, the project to establish an Islamic training institute in Agadez, another for the construction of a polyclinic in Agadez, and the project to build a national center for pedagogical and technical resources in Niamey”.
He expressed his conviction that Algeria and Niger “will manage to overcome all difficulties and obstacles to achieve, together and through dialogue, great things for our countries and our peoples”.
“is the spirit with which we have arrived in your beautiful country as a friend, brother, and neighbor,” he said, expressing his “deep gratitude” to his “brother and friend, the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the government, and to the great Algerian people for the warm and fraternal welcome” extended to him and to his accompanying delegation.
