The Algerian Civil Protection has been ranked among the top 10 civil protection agencies globally, according to a worldwide classification of civil defense organizations based on their readiness to handle major disasters.

This global ranking comes within the framework of a study conducted by Harvard University, prepared by American experts Alfred Maxim and Gianna Thompson. The study was based on a set of criteria, including:

  • The number of interventions announced annually.
  • The ratio of civil protection personnel compared to the population size.
  • Experience in large-scale operations.
  • The country's surface area and geographic spread.
  • Participation in relief operations outside national borders.

The United States Civil Protection service ranked first globally. The top ten positions also included civil protection agencies from Japan, Germany, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, and France.

Notably, the Algerian Civil Protection is the only agency from the African continent ranked among the top 30 civil defense organizations in the world.

Colonel Boualem Boughlef, Director General of the Algerian Civil Protection since 2018, is credited as the figure who transformed the agency's operational methods. Today, the Algerian Civil Protection conducts practical simulation exercises for natural and industrial disasters almost every month.

Furthermore, Colonel Boughlef has issued instructions to local units deployed across the country's various wilayas to organize mini-operational maneuvers to tackle forest fires, maritime disasters, building fires, factory fires, floods, flash floods, and earthquakes, with the aim of enhancing operational readiness.

Thanks to this approach, the Algerian Civil Protection has gained extensive field experience in dealing with various types of disasters and accidents.
