Algeria has officially declared that the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, joining many other Islamic nations in observing the start of the fast.
The announcement was delivered Tuesday evening by the National Commission for Crescent Observation and Religious Timetables at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs. During a live broadcast from Dar Al-Imam “Sidi Abderrahmane Thaâlib” in Mohammadia, Algiers, the committee convened a special session to attempt to sight the crescent.
Following the inability to sight the crescent moon in various regions across the country on Tuesday, the committee confirmed that the month of fasting will officially commence on Thursday.
