The great Algerian artist, M'hamed Benguettaf, excelled in over one hundred works across theater, television, and cinema, spanning acting, writing, and directing.

Born on December 20, 1939, in Algiers, he possessed a beautiful singing voice, yet he preferred acting and rose to the challenge.

He distinguished himself in radio theater, starting with the play "Untitled" (Bila Aanouan) by Mohamed Hilmi (1965), catching the attention of Mustapha Kateb, who recruited him to the National Theater.

He rose to prominence with the character of "Ami El Abed" in the play "The Martyrs Return This Week" (Echouhada Yaoudoune Hada El Ousbou), which won the Grand Prize at the Carthage Theatre Festival (1988).

He delved into dramatic writing, translations, and adaptations, and acted in 85 plays.

Together with Ziani, Medjoubi, and Sonia, he founded "El Qalaa Theater" (1989), a unique experiment that produced "El Ayta," "Hafila Tassir 2," and other works.

He served as Director of the National Theater between 2004 and 2014 without ever ceasing his creative output in acting, directing, and writing.

Imbued with popular culture, he enriched Algerian theater with beautiful language and opened doors for young creators.

Benguettaf was honored with numerous awards and maintained a presence in television and cinema, concluding his career with the film "Perfumes of Algiers" (Parfums d'Alger).

The text "Oh Jerusalem" (Ya Qods) was the final creation of Benguettaf, who passed away on January 5, 2014, immortalizing his name in letters of gold.
