A specialized technical team from the Cherchell National Public Museum has traveled to the wilaya of Setif to begin restoration work on the Ain El Fouara landmark following a recent act of vandalism, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts on Tuesday.
The ministry explained that the technical team, acting under the direct commission of the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, has "commenced delicate restoration work, which includes refixing damaged sections and treating cracks in accordance with the latest international scientific and technical standards for the maintenance of artworks." These efforts aim to "ensure the landmark recovers its original form and its aesthetic and archaeological value."
In this regard, the Ministry of Culture and Arts confirmed that it has "taken all legal measures to prosecute those responsible for this act of vandalism in court, in commitment to legislation and the protection of cultural property."
The Ministry also renewed its call to citizens and civil society organizations to "safeguard cultural property as it represents a shared civilizational heritage."
