The Parliament of Navarre, in northern Spain, reaffirmed its full commitment to the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, and the adoption of the "Navarre Declaration," which calls for an end to the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and asserts the international legitimacy of the Polisario Front as the sole representative of the Sahrawi people.

The resolution, as stated in a release published by the Parliament on its official website, was approved by the majority of votes from the participating parties.

The explanatory statement noted that the resolution, promoted by the Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN), EH Bildu, Geroa Bai, and Contigo-Zurekin, encompasses all analyses and commitments included in the "Navarre Declaration" issued by the 29th session of the Conference of Intergroups, held on February 20 and 21.

The Conference, which included representatives from the autonomous parliaments in Spain, emphasized the recognition of the Polisario Front as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, as recognized internationally.

The Declaration clarified that the Moroccan presence in Western Sahara is illegal and demanded an immediate end to the occupation, while respecting the right of the Sahrawi people to freely determine their future. It asserted that the territory remains a Non-Self-Governing Territory subject to international law, and that Spain remains the de jure administering power according to legal precedents.

The Declaration called for supporting the political process led by the United Nations to reach a just and sustainable solution guaranteeing the right to self-determination.

In the field of human rights, the Declaration demanded the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners, particularly those detained in the "Gdeim Izik" group, and putting an end to systematic human rights violations in the occupied territories, while emphasizing the importance of parliamentary observation missions and continuing their work until 2026.

The statement also rejected any economic or trade agreements that infringe upon the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and condemned the plundering of the region's natural resources. It stressed the necessity that any negotiations must be conducted directly with the Polisario Front, in line with the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Furthermore, the Conference highlighted the role of the National Union of Sahrawi Women (UNMS) and social groups active in the Sahrawi cause, as well as the impact of solidarity programs such as "Vacaciones en Paz" (Holidays in Peace) and "Madrasa Project" in raising international awareness of the suffering of the Sahrawi people.

The Declaration concluded by affirming that a copy of the "Navarre Declaration" will be transmitted to the United Nations, European and Spanish institutions, and relevant authorities, to confirm the international commitment to a solution based on international law, respect for human rights, and countering attempts by the Moroccan occupation to erase the identity of the Sahrawi people and plunder their resources.
