The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications confirmed in a statement this Tuesday that the scheduled maintenance works conducted on the SMW4 (Sea-Me-We 4) submarine fiber optic cable at the Palermo station (Italy) have been successfully completed according to the predetermined schedule.
In this context, the Ministry reported that “the maintenance process had no significant impact on the quality of internet service in Algeria, thanks to the proactive technical measures taken by Algérie Télécom”.
In this regard, it explained that “the capacity passing through the cable under maintenance had been rerouted to other backup (redundant) undersea cables, ensuring service continuity and maintaining the usual internet speeds”.
In this framework, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications reaffirms its “constant commitment to monitoring the readiness of international telecommunications infrastructure and working toward establishing additional cables to ensure high-quality international internet connectivity for Algeria”.
