The body of the former Mujahid and diplomat, Noureddine Djoudi, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 92, was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon at El Alia Cemetery in Algiers.
The funeral ceremony was attended by the deceased's family, alongside the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf. Also present were the late Djoudi's comrades in struggle, diplomats, and civil society representatives, who paid their respects to the soul of this witness to the history of the glorious Algerian Revolution.
In a eulogy delivered on this occasion, the Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Karim Belhaddad, praised the qualities of this "exceptional man," recalling that he joined the ranks of the National Liberation Army (ALN) at an early age.
The deceased served as the personal translator for the icon of struggle and liberation, the late leader Nelson Mandela, during his stay in the National Liberation Army camps, making him a distinguished witness to the meeting between the African National Congress (ANC) and the National Liberation Front (FLN).
Following independence, the late Djoudi pursued a rich diplomatic career that took him to several African capitals. He was an active figure in Algeria's support for liberation movements across Africa and also served as the Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
He was elected President of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution in 2024.
