At the conclusion of his working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, the State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, chaired on May 1, 2026, a coordination and guidance meeting at the Algerian Embassy in Madrid. The meeting brought together the heads of consular centers in Southern Europe.
This meeting is part of a series of periodic consultations with heads of consular missions. It focused on various aspects related to improving consular services for the national community, as well as evaluating the ongoing preparations for the upcoming legislative elections, in which our diaspora abroad will participate.
Regarding consular matters, a set of practical measures was reviewed within the context of the ongoing modernization of the administrative and consular services system. This particularly includes projects under implementation that will soon enter into service, most notably the remote biometric passport renewal service, aimed at enhancing service quality and bringing the administration closer to the citizen.
In this context, the State Secretary issued precise directives, emphasizing the need to accelerate the implementation of these new measures according to an approach based on effectiveness and efficiency, while ensuring their proper execution across all consular missions.
Regarding the preparations for the upcoming elections, the State Secretary emphasized the necessity of achieving the highest levels of readiness by mobilizing all human, material, and logistical resources. He stressed providing appropriate organizational conditions to enable members of the national community abroad to exercise their electoral rights under the best circumstances, while highlighting the importance of tight coordination and continued close cooperation with the representatives of the Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE) abroad, including coordinators and delegates.
In conclusion, the State Secretary highlighted the importance of continuing preparations for the summer season, which sees a massive influx of national community members to the homeland. He called for taking all facilitating measures to accompany them, ensure the smoothness of their travels, and continue providing them with the best possible services.
