The opening session of the tenth legislative term of the People's National Assembly (APN) commenced this Tuesday morning, chaired by the eldest newly elected deputy, Abdelkader Bellahssen, assisted by the two youngest deputies, Abdeldjalil Faghouli and Belghith Abdellah Nadhir.
The proceedings opened with a recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha and the playing of the national anthem, prior to calling out the names of the winning candidates in accordance with the Constitutional Court's announcement of the final election results for the People's National Assembly. This will be followed by the formation of the membership validation committee and the approval of its report.
Subsequently, a new Speaker of the People's National Assembly will be elected for this tenth legislative term.
The temporary bureau of the People's National Assembly held a meeting last Sunday to finalize the agenda for the opening session and discuss the procedures for forming the membership validation committee. The meeting was attended by representatives of political parties and independent candidate representatives who won in the recent legislative elections and met the requirement to form parliamentary groups.
For reference, the final results for the election of members of the People's National Assembly held on July 2, 2026, which were announced by the Constitutional Court on the 18th of this month, resulted in the National Liberation Front party coming in first place by securing 91 out of 407 seats, while the Democratic National Rally came second with 74 seats, followed by the El Moustakbal Front with 56 seats.
In the same context, the Movement of Society for Peace came fourth with 43 seats, followed by the National Construction Movement with 40 seats, then the lists of independents with 33 seats, while the People’s Voice Party obtained 16 seats, and the Socialist Forces Front won 12 seats.
The Freedom and Justice Party and the New Dawn Party also obtained 6 seats each, followed by the El Karama Party with 5 seats, while the Rally for Culture and Democracy and the Justice and Development Front each won 4 seats. The Workers' Party, New Generation, and Tajamou Amel El Djazair each obtained 3 seats, while the Ennahda Movement won two (2) seats.
The National Republican Alliance, the New Algeria Front, the Good Governance Front, the Free Citizens Front, the Algerian Renewal Party, and the National Unity and Development Party each obtained one seat.
