Spanish police in Huelva, Andalusia, seized five tons of cocaine coming from Morocco.

This came as part of a large-scale anti-drug operation that has so far resulted in the arrest of eight people.

According to local media, the drugs were stored in a house near the city of Gibraltar.

The house was used by criminals as a warehouse to temporarily hide the cargo before transporting it to its final destination.

The operation is considered one of the largest ever carried out against cocaine trafficking in Huelva.

Spanish police arrested eight individuals, who were placed in pre-trial detention after appearing before the court.

Spanish police also seized approximately one million euros in cash and firearms used by the network.

The cocaine was delivered to Spain via routes typically used for smuggling cannabis resin (hash), transported on board speedboats from Morocco.

Meanwhile, Spanish authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover the full scope of the criminal network and its potential ramifications both inside and outside Spain.

Numerous drug trafficking networks have been dismantled in recent years across several European countries as part of the ongoing crackdown on drug smuggling from Morocco.

Morocco is considered the world's leading producer of cannabis and the primary supplier of these toxins to European countries.
