Algeria secured 24th place in the 2026 edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which concluded on Sunday evening in Toruń (Poland), placing it at the top of the African and Arab nations that participated in this tournament.

This ranking was secured thanks to Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki's bronze medal in the triple jump event, with a leap measured at 17.30 meters.

This performance placed him in third place, behind the Italian Andy Diaz Hernandez (17.47 m) and the Jamaican Jordan Scott (17.33 m).

Algeria participated with a total of four athletes in this global indoor event, held from March 20 to 22 in the Polish city of Toruń.

The three other national representatives in this competition were middle-distance runners Mohamed Ali Gouaned and Slimane Moula, who both competed in the 800 meters, as well as the young Younès Ayachi (17 years old), who was entered in the high jump.

Unfortunately, these three athletes did not manage to do as well as Triki by winning other medals that would have further bolstered the Algerian medal haul.

This 2026 edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships was won by the United States of America, with a total of 18 medals (5 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze), finishing ahead of Great Britain in second with four gold medals, and Italy in third with five medals (3 gold and 2 silver).

As a reminder, the World Indoor Championships constitute the first major event of the year on the program of the international federation "World Athletics," where the world's best athletes gather to secure the first titles of the season.
