Sayoud Meets with Niger’s Ministers of Interior and Transport in Niamey

Yesterday, Monday, in the Nigerien capital, Niamey, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud, held a meeting with Niger’s Minister of Interior, Mr. Mohamed Toumba, and the Minister of Transport, Colonel Abdourahamane Amadou. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint Cooperation Commission, according to a statement from the Ministry.

The meeting was dedicated to exploring ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of interior and transport. Discussions covered a range of issues of mutual interest, most notably the implementation of agreements signed between the two ministerial sectors in the security field and the enhancement of operational coordination between the relevant departments.

According to the statement, the meeting also addressed the “reactivation of the Bilateral Border Committee to enhance the security and stability of border regions. Furthermore, discussions focused on launching and intensifying training programs for Nigerien National Police officers to strengthen their operational capabilities”.

The two sides also discussed available opportunities for “exchanging expertise and experiences in managing the phenomenon of irregular migration within a joint approach”. Furthermore, they emphasized “encouraging and intensifying meetings between local officials in both countries to support decentralized cooperation and enhance field coordination”.

Regarding the transport sector, the talks addressed ways to develop bilateral cooperation by updating the bilateral agreement on air transport to align with modern international standards for civil aviation safety and security. Additionally, they agreed to organize technical consultations in the aviation field during the second half of 2026 and to study a new draft agreement concerning international road transport for passengers and goods to meet the sector's evolving requirements, the same source added.

The two sides also discussed “mechanisms for institutional cooperation between the public transport authorities of both countries to enhance trade exchanges”. Furthermore, they explored “reactivating the twinning project between the Road Freight Transport Group, Logitrans, and the Training Center for Road Transport Technologies to support the exchange of expertise and professional development”.

During the meeting, both parties also explored prospects for cooperation in the rail transport sector, as well as strengthening cooperation at Algerian ports. According to the statement, this meeting reflects the “shared will of both countries to bolster bilateral cooperation and elevate it to broader horizons, serving mutual interests and supporting efforts for development and stability in the region”.

The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud, is accompanying Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, on an official visit to the Republic of Niger, leading a high-level ministerial delegation on the occasion of the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint Cooperation Commission.
