Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, alongside his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, presided over the opening of the Algerian-Nigerien Business Forum. Held during the second day of the 2nd session of the Algeria-Niger Joint Cooperation Commission, this forum reflects the shared will of both countries to promote economic cooperation and strengthen their bilateral strategic partnership.
The same source stated that “the Vice-President of the APN, Mr. Mohamed Nini, along with deputies Azzi Ben Thabet and Tidjani Mohammed El Hafedh, will participate in the Parliamentary Conference organized on the sidelines of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference,” scheduled to be held in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé.
This conference brings together “nearly 400 lawmakers on the sidelines of each WTO Ministerial Conference, serving as a permanent mechanism for parliamentary oversight of the World Trade Organization”. It aims to “add a parliamentary dimension to its work, thereby contributing to the enhancement of transparency and accountability in global trade,” according to the same statement.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb emphasized that the convening of the Bilateral Business Forum serves to implement the high-level directives of the two countries’ leaders: the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the President of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Abdourahamane Tiani. These directives were reaffirmed during President Tiani’s recent visit to Algeria. He further explained that these directives outline a framework for comprehensive cooperation across various fields, particularly in the social and economic sectors, as well as other potential areas for bilateral coordination, reflecting the historical depth that unites the two peoples.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the roadmap to be approved by the Joint Commission will provide a strong impetus to the cooperation process and contribute to achieving effective economic synergy between the two countries, thereby enhancing the prospects for a strategic partnership. He also stressed the importance of concluding this visit to the Republic of Niger with the signing of practical agreements that would materialize shared ambitions and transform political will into tangible achievements on the ground, meeting the aspirations of both the Algerian and Nigerien peoples.
The forum provided an opportunity to present and analyze the business climate and investment prospects in both Algeria and Niger. It highlighted the reforms adopted to enhance investment attractiveness, modernize legal and regulatory frameworks, and strengthen investor support mechanisms while streamlining procedures.
During the forum's proceedings, investment opportunities were presented across several strategic and priority sectors, such as agriculture, livestock, and agri-food industries, as well as the hydrocarbons and energy sector—including renewable energy. The presentations also covered mining and natural resource exploitation, infrastructure, public works, transport, telecommunications, modern technologies, and postal services, alongside manufacturing and logistics. These discussions reflected the significant potential for economic integration between the two countries, highlighting the competitiveness of Algerian products, particularly in the agricultural and food sectors, and their prospects for entering the Nigerien market.
The bilateral meetings between economic operators from both sides, as well as meetings between representatives of official institutions and bodies, allowed for the exploration of concrete partnership opportunities. They also provided a platform to discuss ways to implement joint investment projects that would bolster trade exchanges and promote bilateral economic cooperation.
On this occasion, the Algeria-Niger Business Council presented a letter of appreciation, specifically addressed to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and to General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of the Republic of Niger and Head of State. This gesture is in recognition of the new dynamic established in the political and economic relations between the two countries, and their clear will to strengthen trade ties through the development of strategic and structural projects between Algeria and Niger.
The meeting featured an interactive session dedicated to exchanging views and addressing concerns, contributing to the formulation of a shared vision for developing economic cooperation between Algeria and Niger. This session aimed to open promising horizons for sustainable partnerships that serve the mutual interests of both countries.
