The wilaya of Blida benefits daily from a significant volume of desalinated water supplied from the "Fouka 2" Seawater Desalination Station (SDEM) in Tipaza, amounting to approximately 80,000 m³ per day. This supply has contributed to improving the provision of this vital resource to the population, the Directorate of Water Resources revealed on Tuesday.
On the sidelines of the World Water Day celebrations, observed annually on March 22, the local sector director, Abdelkrim Allouche, specified that the wilaya receives a daily significant share of desalinated water from the "Fouka 2" station, currently oscillating between 75,000 and 80,000 cubic meters.
This quantity has strengthened the wilaya's water production system, thereby improving supply in several communes, such as Mouzaïa, El Affroun, Bouarfa (west), and Chebli, Soumaâ, Guerrouaou (east), as well as Blida center.
The connection works for five other communes in the eastern part of the wilaya to the Tipaza desalinated water distribution network—including Meftah, Larbaa, Djebabra, and Ouled Slama—are on the verge of completion, the official assured.
It is worth noting that the wilaya of Blida's share of the production from the Tipaza SDEM (estimated at 300,000 m³ per day) amounts to 100,000 m³ per day. This will reinforce the local daily water production volume, which already exceeds 200,000 m³ per day, according to figures from the sector's directorate.
Furthermore, Mr. Allouche highlighted ongoing projects aimed at strengthening the drinking water production system, scheduled for delivery before next summer. These include the realization of new boreholes, the rehabilitation of others to increase daily flow, the construction of storage facilities, and the rehabilitation of sections of drinking water supply networks.
