Clearing Misconceptions
On behalf of the Algerian state and its people, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his gratitude to the Pope for accepting the invitation to visit the country. He noted that this visit helped "clear up much ambiguity" and served to "reposition Algeria within its true and natural sphere."
The President recalled that the Sovereign Pontiff described Algeria as a Mediterranean nation "open to all cultures and religions," emphasizing that the country has "never persecuted other faiths."
Diplomatic Dynamics
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune pointed out that his previous meeting with the Pope at the Vatican was the "starting point for this dynamic," adding that while this initiative was a significant diplomatic achievement, it "did not please everyone."
